HistoryIn 1037, "Castillia" became an independent state. It merged with "Aragon" in 1479 as Spain. The communities of "Basque" and "Catalonia" have a far going autonomy. The Basque provinces have a violent independence movement.
Spain is a member of the European Union since 1986.
