Hamilton Island is a privately owned island and part of Queensland.
It issued its own distinct license plates between 1989 and 2003 which were only valid on the island and were not recognized by the state of Queensland.
Since 2003, all vehicles on Hamilton Island became registered with the state's maroon on white "Limited Use" plates.
