Issuance and Recognition

South Dakota issues two tax exempt plates to the tribal government.

The Oglala [Lakota] Sioux Tribe issued passenger and handicapped driver license plates between 1986 and 1988. They have been discontinued.

The state also issues special interest plates with the tribe's name and emblem which can be purchased by any vehicle owner who registers a vehicle in the state.
